Minnesota?! You know it’s cold there?

Approaching the airport all I saw when I looked out the window was green, green, green, lake, lake, lake, and then one lonely house. This was my very first impressionĀ of Minnesota as we flew over the North Star State. At least we can have a look around the airport and kill some time before we board our connecting flight back home from Phoenix. My sister Lilly and I walked for about 5 minutes until we realised there wasn’t very much to see. Second impression made. Honestly, I never thought I’d live in Minnesota. But then God has a great sense of humour, so here I am. I have become very enthusiastic about my trip; just ask my parents who have to deal with my excitement. This is mainly due to the wonderful family I will be staying with. They are already making me feel so welcome and we haven’t even met in person. šŸ™‚

Here are three things others have told me about Minnesota:

  1. It’s cold.
  2. It snows a lot.
  3. And it’s cold.

I have tried finding out more about Minnesota other than just info on the weather. Some of it based on the internet and some on movies I have seen šŸ˜€ One of the movies is also my inspiration for the title of my blog.

“New in Town” is great film about a successful business woman who is transferred from Florida to, yes that’s right, Minnesota as a representative for her company. Although she isn’t very pleased about the idea of living in a place that is freezing most of the year she warms up to the people she encounters and to the idea of permanently living in one of the most northern states. According to this movieĀ Minnesotans love ice hockey, ice skating and ice fishing. Also, the Vikings seem to be a big thing. And lakes. There are a lot of lakes.

The internet tells me that I am about 30 minutes away from the Mall of America, which I am very excited to see because it is one of the biggest malls in the world. This shopaholic is happy. Actually, I don’t think I’m that bad, but this may all change soon especially since there is no tax on clothes, shoes, food and even medicine. Skiing, sledding and other winter activities are obviously very popular according toĀ exploreminnesota.com

I am eager to experience all this during the next year and will report back to you on what I find out. Love, Sophie x

New year, New Adventures

Happy New Year! 2016 is here and in just a few weeks I will be on my way to the U.S.A. where I will be working as an Au Pair with a wonderful host family, taking care of their two boys. I’m so excited about everything Minnesota has to offer (apart from cold weather, but more on that soon šŸ™‚ ). Iā€™d love for you to come along with me. I hope you enjoy my blog. Love, Sophie x
